Henrik Larsson was evidently a tremendous goalscorer, but he had so much more to his game. A fine touch, bravery, work-rate, crossing and skill. All of those qualities were on display against Motherwell, on this day in 2002.
Paul Lambert put Celtic in front, but the move began with Larsson showing his strength and hold up play. The ball then found it’s way to Henrik again, who held off the defender and played a beautiful back-heeled pass into the Scotsman’s path.
In the second half, Larsson demonstrated his aerial prowess with a powerful header to convert Lubo Moravcik’s corner kick. Fans then saw the King of Kings dispatch a penalty, before he showed good control to set the ball up and play an overhead pass to Mjallby who volleyed beyond the keeper.
Celtic thrashed Motherwell 4-0 and all four goals included Celtic’s super Swede. He showed that he was an all round footballing genius.
