Ewan Henderson is hoping that this pre-season will showcase his talents to new boss Ange Postecoglou as the 21-year-old plots a new contract at Celtic. Henderson has featured in the pre-season games so far and will be hoping to be involved tomorrow against Preston North End as The Bhoys ramp up preparations for the crunch Champions League tie versus FC Midtjylland.
As reported by the Sun, Henderson is hoping that if he works away and this is picked up by the manager then he will be rewarded with a new deal.
“It’s been very good to get games under my belt. Obviously pre-season is about playing games and getting your fitness up and everyone’s had that. I think we’ve played very well in the matches.
“It is the final year of my contract, but it’s a big year for everyone. Obviously, there’s a new manager and there are opportunities for everyone here.
“I’ll just keep my head down, keep working hard and we’ll see what happens.
“I’ve a year left and I’ve got to push as hard as I can to try and get into the team and stay in it. You’ve obviously got to have confidence in yourself. I’m playing at a massive club and I’ve been at Celtic since I was a young age. I know what it takes to play for Celtic.”
“The new manager’s been excellent. Since the first day, he’s been very professional and I’m buzzing about things.
“If you look at the history of his teams, it doesn’t matter what age you are, if you’re good enough you’ll play, so that’s good for all the young players here. We know if we do well we’ll get a chance.
“Every day we’re working to a really high standard. Every session is very intense and if you’re doing that in training you’re obviously going to benefit on the pitch in games.
“Every manager has their own things and every manager demands different things from us. He has been very intense, but I’ve enjoyed it.”
Henderson spent two spells on loan since breaking into the Celtic first team in 2018. Firstly at Ross County and then Dunfermline Athletic, the player clearly has an abundance of talent it is just getting himself in a position where he is constantly in and around the first team.
