Hack free football reporting at its finest – today Ange Postecoglou spent the best part of an hour speaking to the Celtic Fan Media – and there wasn’t a mainstream media hack in sight!
An when you listen to both the questions and especially the long, detailed and interesting answers you’ll maybe stop to ask yourself why the club puts itself through the regular mainstream media conferences which Ange himself has often taken issue with, describing their questions as being condescending.
No-one was being condescending towards the Celtic manager today and he afforded each and every Celtic supporter asking him a question the same courtesy of a detailed and thoughtful answer to the question put.
There were podcasts, fan video channels and of course sites like The Celtic Star, who has been leading this campaign to get Celtic to open up to the fan media as something that will benefit Celtic. None of the sites paid Celtic any money, remarkable really that this has to be said, but it’s strange times we live in in the weird and wonderful world of Scottish football.
Yesterday I was driving to Forthbank stadium in Stirling for the SWPL Cup semi-final match against Hibs – Celtic won 2-1 and will now play Glasgow City on Sunday 5 December at Firhill – and listened to the BBC Sportsound on the radio. They were talking about – surprise, surprise – theRangers and Tom English was on. Three of four times he referred to STEVEN Gerrard and two or three times he talked about POSTECOGLOU. Remarkable really.
Going forward Celtic Fan Media will be represented at ALL media conferences with Ange and the players. On a rotating basis two representatives from the fan media will be invited along to ask questions and hopefully to provide a better Celtic minded perspective into these proceedings.
For now though in the video below, you’ll learn stuff about Ange you’ve never heard before, you’ll get a better insight into what he’s going to bring to Celtic in the months and years ahead.
Around the time Eddie Howe walked away and just after we’d been linked with Ange, an Australian Celtic supporter wrote an article about Ange at a time were were all trying to find out about him. Today’s media conference – with the Celtic Fan Media – reminded me of this article and I’ll dig it out and re-post, perhaps in the morning.
Make sure you listen to this, superb stuff from Ange and well done to all the supporters asking the questions…

Great to see the fan media getting time with the Celtic manager. Some great questions asked and all answered openly and honestly by Ange. More impressed by the man each time I hear him speak
I’m not so sure Conall. There appears to be no questions asked to ascertain if Australia had come across the Lisbon Lions, and it is common practice to ask if it is important to win at the weekend…at least three times.
Much to learn methinks!
