Beyond the Boyata Banner, an excellent Green Bridge’s Mental Health Awareness initiative today

The Green Brigade will be getting loads of media attention for their Boyata not fit to wear the jersey banner.

Social media is already awash with supporters arguing whether they were right or wrong in their message today. Personally I have yet to boo a Celtic player and wasn’t going to start today.

The Green Brigade banner was the correct way to make the protest on behalf of the support. The booing of a Celtic player selected by the manager and playing in an important game for the club is not helpful. However you can understand it.

Boyata probably never played on Thursday because he didn’t want to cup-tie himself for the Europa League Group stages.

He was also probably playing today because we remain short of central defenders – Simunovic, Hendry and Compper were all unavailable through injury – but also because of the need to put him in the shop window. Show he’s fit and good to go for his new club.

It’s okay us being emotional but for Celtic and for the player it’s business.

But the Green Brigade care and if you want some further evidence of that what about their excellent leaflet initiative today. One of these leaflets was placed on every space in the standing section and it would be a great idea to help them fund a wider distribution across all seats in the ground.
