Applause for Match Winner Boyata after Green Brigade’s “Not fit’ banner

Celtic 1 Hamilton 0

Dedryck Boyata’s re-appearance in the starting line-up provided an interesting little sideshow in the rather flat opening fifteen minutes at Celtic Park today.

Then after a goalless first half and the Celtic support getting increasingly frustrated Boyata popped up to score and give Celtic the lead.

Each touch the Belgian Rebel made was booed by a small section of the support, notably the Bhoys at the back corner of the Jock Stein stand. The ‘silent majority’ of the Celtic support took exception to this and from his second touch onwards, each time he got the ball he was applauded by thousands, thus drowning out the boos.

After a quarter of an hour everyone got fed up and realising they had been outclapped the boo-ers packed it in.

The Green Brigade, who unfurled a banner saying Boyata was not fit to wear the jersey, didn’t get involved in any booing for those interested to know. They made their point by signing in praise of Kieran Tierney while this was all going on.

The Celtic players gathered round the Belgian to congratulate him and celebrate the goal that puts Celtic a point ahead of the World Beaters before next Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.

Boyata nearly made it two after Hamilton failed to clear but his placed shot just went over the bar.

It had been a frustrating afternoon for the Celtic players who had nearly all the possession and had so many attempts at goal. On another day it could have been five or six nil but in the end it was the Belgian who made the difference to win the points for Celtic.

The sponsors gave their man of the Match to Moussa Dembele who played well but surely they were being tactful and thinking about the past few weeks rather than the 90 minutes today?
