A Celtic return for KT is highly unlikely, but stranger things happen

Kieran Tierney has been linked with a return to Celtic albeit on a loan deal. At the moment it’s just rumours but could there be any substance to it?

KT of course left Celtic to join Arsenal for £25 million back in 2019, a fee which remains the record amount that the club have received for a player. He’s done great at the Gunners and has looked like a star left-back in the EPL, but last season due to a tactical change he lost his place to Oleksandr Zinchenko in Mikel Artetas side. That in my opinion was unfair as I believe that KT is a much better player, but it’s the former Rangers player who is picking the Arsenal team.

Tierney has been linked with moves away to clubs such as Newcastle and not surprisingly as he’s a talented player. Are Celtic about to make a move for him? We know Brendan knows him well and holds him in high regard, and the player himself says he would be interested. But that doesn’t automatically mean he will be upping sticks back north to Glasgow.

Any move for KT would of course be a loan deal, and Celtic would have to pay a hefty wedge of his substantial salary. Not to mention that the club are also well covered in his position, although doubts still remain over Alexandro Bernabei. You also need to factor in the outstanding form that Greg Taylor has found over the past few seasons.

What do we think about a Kieran Tierney return? I think he’d be a great addition even if it’s only temporary. KT is a big Celtic man, but I personally think he wants to stay in the EPL as he still has a lot to prove. If it’s between a loan offer and a permanent deal at another EPL club or he’s reassured he’s still in Arteta’s plans, i think he will prefer to stay down south.

One things for sure if he’s not wanted at Arsenal he won’t have a shortage of offers, whether Celtic is one of them remains to be seen. Time will tell but it’s got to be regarded as highly unlikely but is nevertheless a nice thought for us to contemplate on these high summer days.
