Aberdeen interim boss says his side have belief ahead of visit to Paradise

Aberdeen interim manager Barry Robson has confirmed that his side are travelling to Celtic Park with the belief that they can get a result. Robson, who spent over two and a half years at Celtic, will be tasked with stopping Ange Postecoglou’s side, who are in fine form but he will seek to spring a surprise.

Speaking to Red TV, Robson was asked if he would go into the game with confidence despite the run of results which saw Jim Goodwin sacked.

“Yeah, of course you do. That’s why we’re in this game. You’ve got to go down there and believe. We are Aberdeen Football Club. We are missing a couple of centre backs who give you speed.

“It might change our game idea a wee bit but we’ve got to go down there and believe and be positive. Yes, Celtic is a huge club, but so is Aberdeen. We want to go down there and show the fans that we’re fighting and we want to try and put in as good a performance as we possibly can.

“We are missing Ross and Liam who are our two centre backs with speed, which is a miss but we’ve got some other good players who can come in and take their place. Apart from that we are sitting okay.”

Celtic have won the first two meetings between the teams, with a 2-0 victory in the opening game of the season back in July before a Callum McGregor strike proved the difference back in December at Pittodrie. With forty goals in the thirteen games since that game marked the return of domestic football after the World Cup break, Celtic will be a formidable force to be reckoned with for the out of sorts Dons.

Robson is set to take charge of this game along with Aberdeen’s next fixture against Livingston before Dave Cormack decides who to replace Goodwin with as the club’s permanent manager.
