Adamant Wayne Rooney says Derby won’t sell anyone despite Buchanan to Celtic rumours

Rumours are flying that Celtic are looking to get another signing in the door with deadline day approaching. Social media users are banding around Lee Buchanan as the name that has been discussed with the highly-rated full-back being tipped as a potential signing from embattled Derby County. Although, Wayne Rooney has insisted that the club will not be selling any of their players as they battle to avoid relegation.

The Derby left-back could be sold as Rooney copes with the massive financial implications caused by the administrators being called in. Celtic and Nottingham Forest were linked with the impressive youngster. Celtic were said to be eyeing the versatile left-back as they look to capitalise on Derby’s precarious financial situation by offering £2m for the England U21 Internationalist.

However, the Derby manager told Sky Sports News after his side came from 2-0 down to draw with Birmingham City that there would be no departures.

“No players will be leaving. 100 percent. I can guarantee that will be the case.”

Nottingham Forest bid back in July worth £2m but this was kicked out as Wayne Rooney refused to sell to a Championship rival, especially not their local rivals. Celtic could still swoop and offer a deal for the left-back but it appears that the player will remain at the Pride Park club until the end of the season, at least.

Buchanan has made 61 appearances for Derby’s first team and is considered a rising star by Derby, scoring once and assisting three times. The Pride Park club are in administration and look destined for the drop after the EFL subjected them to a points deduction and embargo.

Celtic are currently trying to move on Boli Bolingoli this window with Greg Taylor the preferred candidate for Ange Postecoglou at left-back. Liam Scales and Adam Montgomery have deputised suggesting that the manager is set in terms of his options at the back. If Buchanan was signed, you would expect Montgomery to make a loan move away from the club – with Killie eyeing a deal for the youngster.
