Celtic haven’t won a Glasgow derby in their last five attempts, in what has been an admittedly dour year of playing their bitter rivals.
The club struggled against theRangers in recent times – especially under the leadership of Neil Lennon in the COVID-19 influenced season – but, with Ange Postecoglou at the helm, the Hoops’ have a newfound belief that they will continue their formerly dominant proceedings against Steven Gerrard’s men.
And this is a belief that is shared by Gabriel Agbonlahor.
The former Aston Villa and England striker is a major contributor to Football Insider, regularly commenting on issues surrounding the Glaswegian clubs.
And having witnessed Celtic’s resurgence under Ange, the Birmingham-born striker has backed Celtic to continue their good spell of form and beat a ‘shaky’ theRangers side.
Speaking to FI, Agbonlahor acknowledged Celtic’s poor form in the past, but believes they can turn it around this weekend.
Rangers have looked a bit shaky in recent games, both in Europe and in the league.
You look at that league, it’s about confidence and getting a run of games. I look at Celtic and they’ve had some big wins in the league this season.
They look like a team that have got their act together. There’s no reason why they can’t win the title. I’m sure everyone associated with Celtic will look at it and say ‘let’s do this’.
The Old Firm is the sort of game Celtic need to win to stop the rot. They’ve been losing too many games to Rangers recently. This game is massive. If they win that they will start to think ‘yes, we can get back to where we need to be’.
It’s a massive game and Celtic need to win.
