“All great things must come to an end”, Odsonne Edouard says Celtic goodbyes

Odsonne Edouard completed his move to Crystal Palace this evening, ironically it was on the fourth anniversary of his signing from PSG. The 23-year-old took to Instagram to share his thoughts after the deal was confirmed late tonight.

It was inevitable that the Frenchman would depart in this transfer window given that he had less than a year remaining on his deal. Celtic will hopefully net in the region of £20m given the add-ons attached to the deal which has an initial payment of £15m. Edouard departs having scored 87 times and assisted 39 times for the club since arriving in a £9m deal back in 2017.

Initially signed on a season-long loan, Edouard went from Celtic’s third choice behind Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths to a mainstay in the starting XI. He scored a brace as Celtic beat Rangers 5-0 to win 7IAR and conjured up some incredible moments during his time in the Hoops.

A parting of the ways seemed inevitable as Edouard chased his next move. 9 trophies and countless personal accolades later, Odsonne Edouard arrived at Celtic as a misfiring youngster and leaves as a Premier League striker, who will earn around £70k. The progress of French Eddy will act as a testament to the club’s ability to attract young talents that have maybe struggled to hit their heights and get them back on track before eventually moving them on.

Best of luck, French Eddy.

  1. Good as he has been for us, when a player’s attitude drops as far as Eddy’s had its simply time to part company with him.
Eddy is a talented player, but he’s also a very lazy one.
Truth be told, we did well to get what we did for him.
He was too inconsistent to be valued higher.

  2. Odsonne, I am glad to see you leave. Life is about a lot more than money and when you’re old and grey I hope you feel the way you do today with no regrets. I have had a wonderful life with little more than a basic health care professionals salary. I admire Charlie Gallagher, Charlie Tully, Willie Fernie, Danny Mc Grain, Paul Mc Stay, Peter Grant, Roy Aitken. Personally, I will remember every one of you who downed tools at a time when someone my age had our last chance to win 10 in a row. Goodbye, with no prejudice, but I am glad to see the back of you, Christie, Ajer and the rest that money ruled for.

  3. Odsonne,
I for one am not sorry to see you go. 4 years is nothing. Money is nothing and I hope when you’re old you can look back and honestly say, ” I did the right thing” I am delighted we have now moved on all the people who didn’t want to play for Celtic. I admire players like Danny Mc Grain, Paul McStay, Peter Grant, Roy Aitken, Bertie, Tommy, Billy and the list goes on in my life time, Gallagher, Mc Bride, Hartson, Sutton, etc, who played for Celtic, not the new money god and not one of them downed tools. So, personally, I say, Good bye, Good Luck and Good riddance to everyone who let us down for 10-in a row. I won’t, and I am sure thousands of Celtic people won’t live to see another chance of doing it. Your names won’t trip off my tongue like Simpson, Craig n Gemmell,, etc …or my grandchildren’s tongues ! I am also proud of the board for a magnificent clear-out and replacement window. Well done BHOYS !!
