Anderlecht bidding for Nice striker, could Edouard be set to replace him?

Anderlecht have submitted an offer for OGC Nice’s Myziane Maolida. The 22-year-old is keen on a move to Belgium as his time on the Cote D’Azur has not gone to plan since arriving from Lyon. Get Football News France says that the sides are apart in their estimations of the striker. However, if a deal can be agreed upon, Celtic may keep an eye on the progress as Nice have been linked with Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

Maolida arrived in a deal worth €10m back in 2018. The ex-France U20 Internationalist will depart if his deal can be agreed between Vincent Kompany’s side and the Ligue 1 outfit. This deal could potentially have ramifications for Celtic, who are looking to sell Edouard this summer.

Edouard started and scored in yesterday’s League Cup win over Hearts and probably could have had a hat-trick if it was not for an inspired display from Craig Gordon in the visitors’ goal. Journalist Pete O’Rourke said that the South of France club are preparing to submit an offer for Celtic’s star striker.

It appears inevitable that the Frenchman will depart in this transfer window with fans hopeful that a deal can be done so that a replacement can be sourced. Celtic will hope for a deal in the region of £20m for a player that has scored 88 times for the club since arriving in a £9m deal back in 2017.

The Ligue 1 side are undergoing a rebuild of their own as they look to challenge for the Champions League places, a resounding 4-0 win over Champions Lille proved that they are improving rapidly under new boss Christophe Galtier. The Cote d’Azur club are owned by Ineos, who want to turn the South of France team into a challenger for free-spending Paris Saint Germain.

The next few weeks will be pivotal as to whether Edouard remains at the club or not. Edouard remaining at Celtic would mean that he would be free to contract with any potential suitors in January. Although, the striker remaining and linking up in the way that he highlighted in the game on Sunday, Celtic could seal automatic Champions League qualification by winning the league.
