Thomas Henry Gent deal ‘95% complete’ as Davies joins Sheffield United

Celtic target Thomas Henry looks set to sign for Gent as the deal is said to be ‘95% complete’. Gent are nearing a deal for the OH Leuven striker as Celtic look to have missed out on the £4.5m rated attacker. Meanwhile, former Celtic defensive target Ben Davies has completed a loan move to Sheffield United.

The Daily Record state that a source close to OH Leuven has informed them that the deal for the Frenchman is nearing completion.

“The player is now very close to finalising an agreement with Gent. The deal is not 100 per cent finished yet but it is around 95 per cent complete.”

Henry scored 21 goals last season and the player would have represented a more than capable replacement for Edouard, should he depart. Henry is an imposing center forward that would offer another dimension to the Celtic attack should he sign. The quoted fee appears realistic for Celtic to match Gent but it has always been a case for Celtic of having to sell Edouard before any deal for Henry could be completed.

Meanwhile, Davies has agreed his season-long loan deal with Sheffield United. The former Preston North End defender looked set to sign a pre-contract with Celtic in January only for Liverpool to nip in and pay £2m for the 25-year-old. However, Jurgen Klopp clearly didn’t rate Davies and now he has sent him to the Championship on a loan deal.

Celtic are targeting a double deal in the coming days for Liam Scales of Shamrock Rovers and Legia Warsaw’s Josip Juranovic as the manager searches for defensive recruitments.
