Ange Postecoglou speaks directly to Celtic fans after Cup Final win

Celtic last night sent out an email to supporters from manager Ange Postecoglou, who speaks directly to us all explaining how special it was to win the league cup in front of so many Celtic fans at a packed Hampden Park.

“Winning trophies has always been part of this club’s identity, and so we’re all delighted to have done that today by lifting the League Cup with the victory over Hibernian at Hampden.

“It’s a great achievement by the players and one that they should rightly be very proud of. And whether it’s the first winner’s medal as a Celtic player or, in the case of players like Callum, another one to add to an already impressive collection, I know that the whole squad will savour this achievement.

“To win the League Cup in front of so many of our own supporters at Hampden, and knowing that so many more throughout the world were cheering us on, makes this success even more special”.

Ange then explained that his main goal as manager of Celtic is to have a team that is exciting to watch and a team that the fans are proud to support.

“What we are trying to do here, in terms of the football we want to play and what we want to achieve on the field, is to have a team that is exciting to watch and that our supporters are proud of.

“The backing that we get, week in, week out, both home and away is incredible, and on behalf of everyone at the club I want to thank all of you for your support.

“It is a real strength of this football club, and something that people around the world are well aware of, so to be part of that, to get that support and, in turn, to deliver success in terms of silverware, is something we’re all very proud of.

Our manager then goes on to explain that this is only the start and that we have a lot more football to play this season, with plenty more opportunities to claim further silverware as the season progresses.

“It doesn’t just stop here, of course, and we have a lot of football still to be played for this season. For us, as a team, that means very quickly turning our attention to our game at St Mirren on Wednesday night, but in the wider context of the campaign, it means competing for more trophies both domestically and in Europe.

“For tonight, though, it is about celebrating our League Cup success and enjoying it together as a club – as players, management and as supporters.

A nice touch from Celtic and Ange that will be appreciated by the Celtic support. I was overjoyed to see Ange claim his first trophy at Celtic yesterday and it’s fully deserved due to how he has improved this team in such a short period of time. Onwards now to St Mirren midweek and another important game where claiming maximum points will be vital.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!
