Approach made – Celtic to offer Preston midfielder a pre-contract

Celtic have made an approach for Preston North End’s Ben Pearson on a pre-contract agreement. The 25-year-old’s deal with Alex Neil’s side expires in the summer leaving him free to contract terms after that time and Celtic have emerged as early favourites for his signature after making contact.

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph tweeted the update this evening, confirming that Neil Lennon’s side are keen on bringing the ex-Manchester United kid to Celtic Park in the summer.

Celtic have been linked with PNE’s Ben Davies, who is also free to contract ahead of his deal expiring with the Championship outfit. However, Celtic have moved quickly to discuss terms with Pearson.

Pearson has scored twice in 155 appearances, playing predominately as a defensive midfielder.

The fact that Celtic are looking to recruit another midfielder for next season tells a story in itself, Celtic are likely planning for life after Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie with the pair recently linked with moves to England.
