Aston Villa youngster pens new deal despite Celtic interest

Aston Villa have agreed a deal with highly-rated Academy youngster Aaron Ramsey, despite reported interest from Celtic. The 18-year-old has been capped by England at under-16 and under-17 level while, in November, he was called into the under-19 squad. Ramsey was linked with Celtic and Ajax in the January window, according to Daily Mail.

The Villa youngster was available on a free transfer with just a compensation fee required. However, he has moved to agree a long term deal with the Premier League side as he looks to increase his progress.

Celtic signed highly rated Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Liam Shaw on a similar deal but it would seem that there will be no deal to bring Ramsey to Celtic. The club will be facilitating an overhaul of the footballing department with a new Director of Football likely to be arriving before the new manager. Fergal Harkin of Manchester City has been widely tipped to assume control of the footballing department ahead of a new appointment of manager.
