“At long last the truth speaks its name. Anti Catholic bigotry,” Jim Spence on Scotland’s Shame

“At long last the truth speaks its name. Anti Catholic bigotry….allowed to fester even in polite homes for a century and never tackled. What school did you go to at job interviews? Blame the schools they said! ‘Civic Scotland’ has ignored this, and thus acquiesced for too long,” Jim Spence has just tweeted, for me that’s the tweet of the year. the former BBC man was responding to the post on social media from the Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf

“My full support to Police Officers who put in an incredible shift yesterday in very difficult circumstances. Absolutely disgraceful that they were subjected to the kind of thuggery we saw last night. Incidents of violence, disorder, anti-Catholic and any other hatred will be followed up,” he stated.

And in a reference to his own removal from the BBC – Spence is a qualified lawyer, and lectured at Dundee University, back in 2012 he was prepared to tell the truth – that a club could not survive liquidation – something the Rangers support all knew themselves until it happened. Spence was hounded out of the BBC as a result – he added:

“Oh and by the way if you upset them they still have ways of making sure you don’t pick up a microphone again with their connections. Their reach is long as is their memory and patience. If you think the morons on the ground are the only ones responsible think again.”

The way that they used the Celtic store on Argyle Street as their toilet yesterday symbolised their deep rooted hatred, many of them also walked all the way up the St Aloysius – a considerable detour from Ibrox to George Square – so they could reveal themselves on a Roman Catholic school.

Feedback to Jim Spence’s brave posts…

Spot on Jim. However, and I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t see anything tangible actually happening here – in fact, these words from Humza Yousaf might be the last we ever really hear of it…

It’s both endorsed and encouraged by Scottish establishment…

Catholic schools are the reason I’m smarter than everyone in George Square yesterday…

Scarily events like yesterday rarely get labelled and condemned for what they are. If it was any other section of society behaving that way there would be outrage. Instead, most people seem to see it as being a minority getting out of hand after a few too many…

Was brought up in Glasgow city centre Jim watched them facilitate it for decades with Orange walks, that’s all that was yesterday a massive orange walk…

The racism topic for the Scottish Government is selective. When it suits them…

Well said Jim. It exists at every level of Scottish society…

The anti-Catholic/Irish bigotry sectarianism racism began at the TOP, not the bottom…

Brave enough to call it out Jim …one Scotland many cultures they say ?? Let’s see if actions speak louder than words…

The fact it’s allowed to continue & not been called out or properly addressed! Sectarian walks of shame parading through the streets in 21st century is an absolute disgrace! Makes me glad that my kids were born outside Scotland and don’t have to witness what still goes on there!

  1. I knew this would happen. The club must be held accountable and punished. I had about 50 of them in my front garden on Friday night. They let off their red??? flares and then ran away. Maybe it was Aberdeen fans celebrating Scott Brown’s arrival? But there is no doubt about Saturdays shameful behaviour. These people are degenerates and more of them should have been locked up and fined. 20+ arrests is a joke… again. Should we also expect a repitition of having an enquiry that was a whitewash, and the SFA and the Scottish Government doing nothing… again. I wonder how many of their players were at house parties last night? If the police are saying that they will identify and charge more of “the sheepul” responsible then why have they not investigated the video evidence from the St Johnston game? Surely for consistency they must? There’s only a small number of potential suspects who can be identified as there were no fans at the game. I would have thought the police would have a much better chance of making a conviction??? Please ask Mr Yousaf what he thinks about this? Maybe he could ask Mrs Sturgeon? Surely a government and police force that genuinely wants to stamp out racism could find the guilty person. If it was any other ethnic group racially abusing a protestant I’m sure it would result in a conviction. As for any further action against yesterday’s criminal activities…I won’t hold my breath. It’s an insult to the rest of Scottish society and it makes a mockery of our police, the SFA, and the Scottish Government whether they are complicit (and we know that they are), or not.

  2. The occasional disgrace is now permanent.
Humza has tweeted something, big deal. Its action, sanctions, penalties that are required…..or my preference, that the Big Lie is exposed ….54 and theyre no more.

  3. Billy Connor on

Time to call out that mob for what they are scum from top to bottom, ex players sprouting there bigoted and racist agenda on radio and in print, and to go on about 55 they died 2012, stop pussy footing around and stop this sham

  4. All credit to Humza Yousaf —-He used the words , ” Anti-Catholic discrimination “, which every Catholic MSP , MP or Cabinet Minister has failed to do at any time in the past . Worst of all is that the Celtic Board have also been ominous with their SILENCE on this matter , most especially when corrupt referees openly deprive Celtic of decisions not only against theRangers but against all other teams in Scotland .
It is a sad day when a MUSLIM has to defend the Roman Catholic cause ( Be he a Celtic supporter or otherwise ) . So instead of criticising the Justice Secretary , we should be sending emails to Holyrood to applaud and thank him . As for the action of Police Scotland , it was no better than when these idiots rioted in March . I , personally wrote an article condemning , ” The Whitewash of an inquiry “, which examined Police Scotland’s conduct in March . The editor of this forum , for some reason , refused to print the article ?????? Maybe like the Celtic Board , Catholic MPS , The Scottish Catholic archdiocese etc. he found controversy too hot to handle ??????
