Atletico Madrid monitoring Fulham midfielder, impact on Matt O’Riley interest

Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira, which could have an impact on the La Liga side’s interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. Diego Simeone’s side came up against Celtic in the UEFA Champions League Group Stages and he was impressed with the Danish midfielder.

Atleti mounted a bid for O’Riley in January but this was rebuffed by Brendan Rodgers and the club as they sought to retain the 23-year-old for the second half of the season. It was expected that the Spanish club would return for O’Riley. However, it appears that Simeone’s team are considering a move for

As reported by Sky Sports, the Brazilian Internationalist is being monitored by a number of clubs as his performances in West London catch the eye of potential suitors.

The 28-year-old was signed from Manchester United and Simeone’s side are reportedly interested in bringing him into the club, which may result in the Spaniards not renewing their interest in O’Riley. The Celtic midfielder enjoyed an impressive first half of the season and is certainly in the running for Player of the Year.

The Scottish Champions secured O’Riley on a long-term contract at the beginning of the season and will be holding out for at least £25m if any sides return for the Danish Internationalist. In 40 appearances so far this season, O’Riley has scored 12 goals and assisted on 16 occasions. The central midfielder will be hoping that he can influence the final stretch of the season as Celtic look to win a Double.

It is very likely that the midfielder will be the subject of intense speculation in the summer given the trajectory of the impressive Dane; however, the player will be firmly focused on his football with trophies to be won and potentially a trip to Germany for the Euros.
