Aussie youngster training with Celtic B team

Western City Wanderers centre-back Liam Bonetig has spent recent weeks with Celtics B team as he looks to make an impression at the club.

The Australian played for the B team in their recent friendly against Fraserburgh, scoring a penalty in the young Celts shootout win.

It is unknown whether the player will be at Celtic permanently or if the player is just on trial at the club, the latter being the most likely.

Bonetig has played eight times for Western City Wanderers u21s this season who play in The National Premier League NSW, a league which is a subdivision of the second tier in Australia, sitting below the A-League.

The 17-year-old was part of the Australian u18/19 Schoolboys team who toured the UK and Ireland in January.

His side beat Northern Ireland u18 schoolboys 3-1 and lost to Ireland u18 schoolboys 2-1 in a tour which saw Bonetig named MVP.

The Aussie is without doubt a player who was spotted by Celtics extensive scouting network, a scouting network which we know has extensive links in Australia after the signing of Marco Tilio from A-League side Melbourne City last month.
