Auston Trusty hysteria hopefully much ado about nothing…

It’s been heavily reported that Auston Trusty has suffered something of an injury scare whilst on international duty with the United States.

The towering Centre back limped off in dying stages of his country’s 2-0 defeat by Portugal at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta Georgia, and despite nothing being confirmed over the reasoning for his withdrawal, it hasn’t stopped the SMSM stirring the pot.

Trusty who was praised for his performance against the all star Portuguese side, looked unaffected by his late withdrawal as he took part in post match media duties.

The former Arsenal and Sheffield United man who has been ordered off on two occasions this campaign, has been something of a conundrum since his £6 million move to Glasgow in the summer of 2024.

Despite his terrific strength and athleticism, the 27 year old has looked a little fragile at times in the rough and tumble of the Scottish game, but has put in a string of impressive performances in big European fixtures, as a well as the Glasgow derbies, in particular last month’s dramatic penalty shootout win in the Scottish Cup.

With his fellow countryman Cameron Carter Vickers stuck on the sidelines through injury, and Liam Scales, Dane Murray and Benjamin Arthur our only other options at Centre back, we need Auston to be fully fit for the remainder of the campaign.

With a tricky trip to Dens awaiting us on Easter Sunday, as well as a Scottish cup semi final date with St Mirren pending before five remaining split fixtures to negotiate, we will need our strongest squad available if we are to succeed in winning the two trophies on offer.

It seems to me that the full facts of Auston’s fitness could be nothing more than the Scottish mainstream media  trying their best to pile more negative attention Celtic’s way.

The Celtic defender though has provided a positive update on social media responding to a Celtic support worried about a possible injury for the American international.

  1. Our CB positions have been an issue all season, especially with an erratic kasper behind them.
Always classed the keeper and CB positions as needing to be the strongest partnership within the team set up. In that regards, there are similarities to how the covid season was handled imo?

That has finally been addressed in recent weeks, with sinisalo taking over the no1 keeper slot.
But it still remains uncertain regarding our best available CB combination at present?

Trusty and scales have been the preferred option for large parts of this season, despite both looking far more comfortable in the LCB role.
So is Murray and Arthur going to be the preferred options as the RCB options now, for the remainder of this season?

As our 20man match day squad, is made up of 3 CB options within it, will mean that 1 of the 4 will have to miss out.
Hence the importance of Trusty, with able to cover both of the CB positions.

So the question still this weekend is not surrounding our CB positions, it’s more about where we stand regarding our RB position?
With 4 options available, but 2 required for our 20man match day squad in general? Can we actually fill that position, with how MoN and Maloney set up our 20man match day squad at present?
If Ralston is our only fit RB option, then do we have to consider Arthur or even yang for the position?
Hopefully Donovan is available, so potentially MoN doesn’t have a big call to be making?

Regardless, not forming a settled back 5, within how our team is set up for match day’s. Has been an issue all season, which I believe has contributed hugely to such inconsistencies within our performance levels imo.
Without that settled back 5 in place, hasn’t provided ourselves with the consistency levels, that we would have liked throughout this season imo?

As we are going to be heading into yet again, another match without our preferred back 5 in operation.
It still leaves the question, as to what is our best back 5, available for the remainder of this season, to actually start matches?
