After yesterday’s defensive shambles Auston Trusty must be the the man to partner CCV…
When the team line up was announced yesterday one name that was omitted from the starting XI that took me by surprise. That was Auston Trusty who hasn’t played since being substituted at half-time in the Premier Sports League cup final win nearly three weeks ago.
He wasn’t taken off in that game because of injury as Brendan said at the time that it was tactical change. He did miss the next game due to illness, but he’s been on the bench in our last couple of matches although he’s not had a sniff of first team action.
That comes as a surprise to me as he’s been superb for us since shining in the goalless draw in Bergamo against Atalanta, and for me should have been playing alongside his international team mate Cameron Carter-Vickers in yesterday’s match to Ibrox.
The performance of Liam Scales in our 3-0 defeat to our bitter rivals showed that Trusty is the man who should undoubtedly be the first pick to start alongside CCV and it will be interesting to see what Brendan thinks. We’ll know on Sunday when the team is named to take on St Mirren.
Starting Trusty yesterday may not have made a difference, but we would have defended a whole lot better that’s my opinion anyway. Liam Scales has done us a terrific turn in the last year or so, but Auston Trusty has got to be firmly ahead of him in the pecking order after such a poor performance at Ibrox. If not questions will rightly be asked.
Maybe not by the Celtic fan media as Celtic seem to have quietly reduced the access without any explanation. Instead we have Keith Jackson sitting there joking away with his pro-theRangers agenda.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
The situation regarding Trusty is bit of a strange one at present imo?
Personally don’t believe until yesterday, that there was to much to choose between Trusty and scales quality wise?
Scales has had a fairly decent season to date, so not buying into making him such a scapegoat for such a shocking team performance overall?
Especially when many other players were just as guilty for such a display?
It doesn’t excuse Rodgers decision whatsoever.
Personally had no complaints about Rodgers subbing Trusty off, in the league cup final, especially as Trusty was looking very vulnerable in that first half?
Since then Trusty hasn’t been used whatsoever, which has been somewhat surprising, when a rotation policy could have been applied?
The decision was taken in not doing so, which is understandable with the keeper and CBs partnership wanting to be the strongest within a team.
In fairness to scales, he has been solid during that period, so hence I would have been amazed if Trusty had started ahead of scales yesterday imo?
Yet again it doesn’t excuse the decision by Rodgers at half time, in ignoring the situation on show, and increasing our supporters fury in doing so?
Poor management is a understatement, and in return hanging out a fairly dependable player by his decision, is more upon Rodgers than scales imo?
But yesterday is done now, and would be amazed if Trusty isn’t starting on Sunday now?
The same will possibly apply to Hatate also now?
So Rodgers has hardly done himself any favours at present, and some amount of repair work is required still, starting on Sunday?
Trusty won’t be the answer for a midfield that failed to operate throughout the whole of yesterday, and one of far bigger concerns imo?
