Australian coach makes contact with agent over Celtic role

Ross Aloisi has confirmed that he has made contact with his agent regarding a potential role on Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic backroom staff. The 55-year-old is heading for Glasgow in order to begin work at Lennoxtown on Monday but will rely upon John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus until Ange is able to assemble his own staff.

However, Aloisi has told Australian outlet The Real Football Show that he has spoken to his agent about the possibility of linking up with Postecoglou at Paradise.

“All I can really tell you is that I spoke to my agent, Frank Trimboli, two days ago, but that’s about it.

“I know Ange reasonably well and have kept in contact with him over the years as well. But I think my focus is the task in hand and that’s a game against Sydney FC at the weekend.

“Everyone wants to work with Ange. I spent a bit of time with him up in Brisbane when he first started coaching the Brisbane Roar, the first season that they won the championship.

“Look, everyone wants to go to Europe and coach, but the reality is that there are obstacles that you have to cross and it’s not my main focus at the moment. Like I said, I would love, like everyone else, to go to Europe and coach, but we have a big game coming up and we want to give it our best shot.”

The 48-year-old is currently a coach with Adelaide United in South Australia but is keen on teaming up with Postecoglou, the man that is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers that the country has ever produced. The rumour in Australia appears to be that Aloisi will be involved in Postecoglou’s backroom staff but this may be, as 67HailHail suggest, is due to the fact that they share the same agency.

Postecoglou will know that he needs to get in his own staff, even if he is relying upon some of the existing staff to help ease him into the role.  Former Socceroo Scott Ollerenshaw said that the manager needed to get his own staff in when he exclusively spoke to The Celtic Star last month.

“I think he will want to bring his own staff if possible … I think any coach worth his weight wants to bring his own people in.”

Postecoglou will arrive in Glasgow with an enormous rebuilding job on his hands but Aloisi is offering himself to Ange in a capacity which would give him someone he trusts to work with in Glasgow.
