When the sun went down in the Czech city of Ostrava last night, Celtic looked back on a job well done as we comprehensively beat Banik whilst getting much needed game time into the legs of a raft of our squad. The final result was 4-2 but the Bhoys should have and could have scored far more as we squandered several gilt-edged chances throughout the match.
The performance was just as pleasing as the result on the day and we look to be getting better and stronger with every passing training session and pre-season friendly. Having not lost this summer so far, it always bodes well for the confidence in the camp and morale when we keep scoring goals. We did lose a couple but that is to be expected at this current juncture in preparation for the new domestic calendar starting.
Ange Postecoglou was not the only football manager who was impressed with the display from our lads yesterday, as Banik Ostrava manager, Pavel Vrba also dished out the praise on our performance and insisted we are at the Premier League level currently. He said: “The difference was what the result was. They were better, more football, they deservedly won. This is reality”, as reported by Football Scotland.
He continued: “Getting four goals is not exactly optimal, but Celtic won the Scottish league and went into the Champions League. They have a completely different budget. It is very difficult to play against such individuals. You won’t find them anywhere else. For me, Celtic and (the)Rangers are at the level of the English league.”
It is no surprise that opposing managers are taking notice of the current Celtic set-up. Ange Postecoglou has completely revolutionised the way in which we operate and play on the park and we are reaping the rewards for this hard work. There is always this big debate about whether or not we could cope down in England and we invariably have to listen to the Anglo-centric media and pundits degrade Celtic and Scottish football in general.
I wouldn’t half like to see how this new Celtic team would fair against the over-hyped and over-inflated teams south of the border. I reckon we’d give as good as we got in all honesty.
