Commentator Derek Rae has issued an update over travel to Germany for Celtic fans ahead of the Europa League clash next week. Ange Postecoglou’s side travel to North Rhine-Westphalia to face Bayer Leverkusen in Matchday Five of the Europa League. With cases in Europe on the rise, the NRW region has announced plans to tighten restrictions, allowing freedom for vaccinated or recently recovered people.
Rae said that there were changes coming, which could impact the travel plans for the Celtic support as Germany considers new restrictions to curb a COVID-19 wave, which is sweeping across Europe. It appears that the Germans are considering implementing a 2G policy, which potentially means that unvaccinated people to be excluded from entry to all non-essential facilities and events including football matches.
1/🧵 here which might be of special interest to Celtic fans who follow and who are planning on going to Leverkusen next week. (Also to anyone heading to NRW.)
The state of NRW has announced initial plans for more restrictions with more details expected in the next few days.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) November 17, 2021
3/ Meanwhile 3G rules still in operation in work places (ie unvaxxed must show negative tests.)
Per state Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst, those who break rules must face “meaningful consequences” & being fined accordingly.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) November 17, 2021
5/ Look for more standardised plans tomorrow across Germany after the meeting of federal and state leaders. I’ll tweet tomorrow what comes out of those discussions. Essentially Germany is moving towards 2G in most aspects of life as the pandemic situation deteriorates.

6/ FFP2 masks will suffice (and are cheaper.) But cloth masks, no.

A number of Celtic fans are expected to make the trip over to Germany and they will need to make sure that they are up to date with the travel advice from Germany prior to making their way to the airport. The punishments noted are very harsh and fans would do without the added stress of incurring fines if they are abroad to watch the Hoops.
