Sky Sports are reporting that Filip Benkovic is weighing up a move to OH Leuven from Leicester City. The 23-year-old is the subject of interest from both Celtic and the mid-table Belgian side and is expected to make a decision in the coming days.
The report yesterday claims that OH Leuven are favourites to seal the deal for Benkovic; however, it states that the central defender is currently weighing up his options amidst the loan interest from the clubs.
‘Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic is considering a loan move to sister club OH Leuven in Belgium.
‘Benkovic is not part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans for this season and so Leicester are prepared to allow him out on loan and would consider a substantive move for the right price.
‘Benkovic does have other options – Celtic confirmed they were in talks with Leicester over a possible deal a few days ago. But it looks like Neil Lennon’s side are not currently favourites to do a deal. Leading the chase is OH Leuven.’
Benkovic joined Leicester from Zagreb in 2018 for £13m before being loaned to Celtic, who were then under Rodgers in his third year. Benkovic impressed in this spell and despite Rodgers leaving, the defender continued to play a part in the team. Benkovic made 27 appearances, winning three trophies. There has been no confirmation of any move as of yet and Celtic may be holding out some hope that a deal can still be reached.
