“Big win away at a tough venue,” Chris Sutton reacts to Celtic’s 5-1 win

Celtic managed to overcome a dodgy VAR call today and went from zero’s to heroes in Paisley this Sunday afternoon against a St Mirren side hellbent on protecting whatever lead they had in the game. Of course, it only got worse once Charles Dunne sold the jersey and brought down Kyogo Furuhashi to hit the showers early doors.

After that, the Saints were utterly determined not to leave their own box and it was literally defence v attack this time around against Stephen Robinson’s side. Despite the conditions which we had been dealt, we dusted ourselves off and went again as has been the case since Ange Postecoglou set up shop in Socttish football.

With a change removing the energetic Daizen Maeda and replacing him with Israeli star, Liel Abada, we managed to find the breakthrough and then we never looked back from there on in today. Ange then made a few changes here and there from the bench and they all made an impact as we ran out comfortable 5-1 winners in the end up.

Former Hoops striker, Chris Sutton has having his say on events today via social media and has commended Celtic on their display today, even though it was a tough venue to come and play. St Mirren have been the only team to beat us this seasons home or away and it looked in the first half as though it could be another struggle.

However, with those crucial adjustments to the playing personnel from the sidelines in the second period of the game today, the Bhoys were able to conjure up a magnificent recovery job which sets us up perfectly for the arrival of Hearts on Wendesday night under the Paradise lights.

Sutton wrote on Twitter after the game:

“Celtic’s bench really impacting again. Big win away at a tough venue. Superb mentality from the players. The league isn’t won yet. Huge week ahead.”

The value of a strong squad is now coming into sharp focus as we chase down another cinch Premiership League title and Scottish Cup to add to our League Cup trophy this season. There will be more twists along the way undoubtedly, and we need everybody in this group to contribute to the cause.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
