JAMES FORREST looks set to undergo surgery for a stress fracture in his ankle. The winger was forced off in a win over Riga in Latvia. The 29-year-old has been a stalwart through Celtic’s run of 9IAR; however, he looks set to miss a key grouping of fixtures with an injury.
After Celtic sealed their eighth domestic cup final in a row, Neil Lennon told the Scottish Sun that Forrest would be going under the knife in the next week.
“He requires surgery. That will hopefully take place next week and get that tidied up, but he’ll be out for a period of time. I don’t know how long, it will depend on how successful the surgery is.”
This means that Lennon isn’t sure when he will be back, which means that Ryan Christie could continue to operate on the right meaning the Wizard of Oz could have unfettered access to the No.10 role, occasionally taking a rest to avoid burnout.
The change in formation has resulted in Celtic looking a lot more fluid. Rogic and Christie have linked up well, with the Aussie earning two assists in the game versus Aberdeen last week and yesterday. The change has also brought out more in Moi Elyounoussi, who has scored three goals in two games. However, Forrest being injured is still a blow and the management will need to make sure they rotate their options to make sure that no one is burnt out or injured in what promises to be a hectic period.
