Brendan excited by two of Celtic’s summer signings

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said that he is excited by two summer signings as they set to be involved in the next phase of pre-season. The bulk of the Celtic players involved in internationals over the summer have returned to training ahead of the new campaign and two new arrivals have caught the manager’s eye.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Cork City, Rodgers told the media that he was excited by Benjamin Nygren as well as the prospect of seeing Kieran Tierney return to the Hoops.

“I’m really excited by him (Nygren), he’s a forward thinking player, he’s got good legs, gets about the pitch and he’s showed up well since he’s come in.

“Kieran was fantastic in my first time here. He’s gone away and gained a lot of experience and maturity.

“We also want to manage him because he’s had a lot of troubles in his fitness history over the last few years, but it’s great to have him back.

“You see that power and I know he’s so excited about being back. Like I say, he’s only in the building, but he’s going to get up to speed.

“You see that competitiveness that he has and he’s doing really well.”

Celtic will introduce the internationalists to the squad at the weekend, allowing players to ramp up their preparations but fans will be keen to see the new Celts.

Tierney will take over the left back berth after Greg Taylor’s departure for PAOK while Nygren will offer attacking options in the middle of the park. The Swedish internationalist can play off the wing as well but it appears that he has been signed in his capacity as a midfielder rather than a winger.
