Brendan Rodgers addresses Celtic’s marquee signing rumours

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has addressed speculation that the club will sanction a £15m-20m signing this summer. There had been rumours that Rodgers would be given the cash to splash in order to return but he has denied this is the reality.

The Irishman was speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his first game in charge at Celtic Park in his second stint as manager. The Celtic manager stated that he wants more incomings as he looks to put his own stamp on the squad and look to progress in Europe but says that there will not be a £15m-20m signing.

“We want to improve the squad. I think everyone looks & thinks that we might be bringing in a £15M – £20M player.”

“Now the reality is, that won’t be the case. It’s not what the club is based on.”

“That doesn’t mean there’s not talented players out there we do want. We want to do some more business.

“We’ll look to bring some more players in.”

Celtic have signed Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Maik Nawrocki with Jota, Aaron Mooy, Osaze Urhoghide and Vasilis Barkas all departing the club. There are likely to be further departures as well as arrivals with players like Albian Ajeti, Ismaila Soro and James McCarthy expected to depart as well.

Celtic face Athletic Club tomorrow evening in James Forrest’s Testimonial match. Then on Saturday, the Scottish Champions face Ross County as they begin their defence of the trophy.
