“I promised that unless I was removed that I would be here for three years minimum. Nothing has changed,” Brendan Rodgers said to the media after his side’s convincing 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon…

Ahead of kick-off Brendan confirmed to BBC Scotland that there was nothing in the reports coming out of his pre-match media conference that there would be change in the summer among the playing squad and change too can sometimes be needed involving the manager.
Dermot Desmond’s important role
Asked about this he told the BBC reporter that 150% he’d be the Celtic manager next season unless of course Celtic’s biggest shareholder Dermot Desmond tells him something different in the summer.

“For now, it’s focusing on getting the job done”
Any summer meeting between the two Irishmen is much more likely to involve the Dublin based billionaire looking to secure Brendan Rodgers on a long term contract extension and in doing so he will have to outline his pitch that will involve personal terms – which won’t be the issue – and also the plans for the development of the team going forward with a particular emphasis on Celtic in the Champions League.

“It’s not something that the club or I need to worry about now. This is about getting the job done and we’ll see where we’re at over the season,” Brendan explained post match as reported by Daily Record. “But the club knows my position. I was always going to be here for the three years, but I’m sure we’ll have a chat of some sort over the course of the summer. But for now, it’s focusing on getting the job done.

“It’s been a great, great journey for us up until now. So we’ve already finished in the best way we possibly can. I promised unless I was removed I’d be here for three years minimum”

“I was just asked the question. But for any avoidance of doubt, because I was surprised when I got asked the question, I think if you were sat in my press conference here on the very first day I arrived, I promised unless I was removed I’d be here for three years minimum.
“So nothing changes. I was only really talking about, just in terms of team dynamic and how the game works. But no, there’s absolutely no doubt, unless Dermot Desmond tells me differently in the summer, I will be excited and ready for the beginning of the season,” the Celtic manager said.
