Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he will be at Celtic next season despite speculation that a Rangers title win may result in the Irishman leaving. Celtic are two points behind their Glasgow rivals with nine games to go, including two Glasgow Derby meetings with the first coming at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Rodgers was asked whether he would be in charge of Celtic next season should Philippe Clement’s side dethrone Celtic.
“Unless I get told otherwise, that’s my expectation. That was the whole thing I had to consider coming back.
“In a funny way I’ve enjoyed this season as there have been so many disruptions and hurdles. But I feel we’ll benefit from that long-term. We’re in a great title race right now and we’re still in a good place.”
Rodgers returned on a three-year deal last summer to replace Ange Postecoglou, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur. It has not been an easy return to Celtic for Rodgers, who has had to contend with key figures under Ange departing, misses in the transfer market and injuries.
The manager will be hoping to return to Hampden next month by swatting aside Livingston in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final. Rodgers will be eyeing the remaining nine games as an opportunity to leapfrog Rangers and secure a third successive season.
