Brendan Rodgers targets League Cup success

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is targeting League Cup success. The manager takes his team to Rugby Park tomorrow for the afternoon fixture against Kilmarnock.

Speaking at yesterday’s media conference, Rodgers said that he enjoyed the structure of the League Cup, which allows for progression to the Final before Christmas.

“I enjoyed that side of it the last time that you have something to play for early on, which is great.

“Having that opportunity to get to a final early on in the season is very good. For us, we have to work hard to get there and earn the right and we look to do that this weekend.

“It’s a game we want to win and we will do everything we possibly can.

“We will have great support to help us and our idea is to get into the next round.”

Rodgers had won three League Cups in a row in his first spell as manager, remaining unbeaten in the competition. The Irishman will be keen to continue that sensational run tomorrow.

Should Celtic overcome a determined Killie, they will find themselves in the draw for the Quarter Finals. Kilmarnock have shown in their opening fixtures against Rangers and Hearts that they are fearless and robust.

McInnes can also call upon his Rugby Park surface to attempt to dismantle Celtic’s defence of the League Cup trophy.
