Brendan Rodgers tipped to finally move for Celtic star this summer

It’s easy to link any of Celtic’s big-name players with a move to Leicester City because of the Brendan Rodgers connection, but it hasn’t actually happened yet.

Time will tell if that changes this summer, but in many ways it could make sense if they try to sign Odsonne Edouard if the club decide it’s the right time to sell him on.

Jamie Vardy is still in great form but he turned 34 at the start of the year so a long term replacement will be needed, while they could also be in the Champions League so that will appeal to Eddy too.

In some ways it would be good to see Eddy go to an elite club and he’s shown he has the talent for it, but it would also be a shame if he’s used in a rotation role and only given the occasional chance to impress.

At Leicester he should be a regular starter in a league that’s suited to his talents and he’ll play for a manager who trusts him and knows how to get the best out of him.

The links to Leicester keep coming and a report from The Boot Room is the latest to make the connection, although it’s hard not to question the motivations behind the talk.

They quote Andy Halliday from a recent Open Goal podcast, and it’s not the first time a former player from the Rangers has openly wished for one of Celtic’s best players to leave.

He does point out that Eddy should be looking to do something similar to Moussa Dembele by moving to a top six club and that could lead to an even better move if he continues to develop and improve.

You do have to worry that Celtic may not get as much money for him this summer compared to last year as the market has crashed a bit, so it will be important to negotiate a decent sell-on clause if he does leave.

It’s easy to see him scoring a lot of goals for Leicester before moving on for a colossal fee in a couple of years, but it looks like a good destination for him if he does need to go.

  1. I like Callum McGregor but this season he has been a bit of a passenger, he can’t chase back and defend, his movement of the ball is lazy, he doesn’t drive the team forward quick enough or often enough. He needs a rest from football for a while, he’s a good Celtic man but I thing he’s burned out a bit.
