Brendan Rodgers will be expected to improve Celtic in Europe

Brendan Rodgers is in the closing stages of agreeing a deal to become Celtic manager for a second time.

Of course we still have our reservations about him giving how things turned out in his last term at the club.  That is only natural, but if Brendan hits the ground running like last time any coldness towards him from some supporters will start to thaw. If we are as successful in the trophy department it will defrost completely!

There is no doubt Brendan Rodgers is a talented manager, but question marks remain over his European record and that will come under close scrutiny by the Celtic support. The next target for Ange Postecoglou was improvement on the European front and it will be no different for Brendan.

He will be equipped with a massive budget, much more than in his first spell. That along with his bumper salary and we are well within our rights to expect him to deliver on that front. It’s a priority for us to develop as a club. Competing in the latter stages of Europe should be our aim and it’s great that Dermot Desmond is buying into this long held aspiration from the Celtic support.

No one is saying he have to win the Champions League, but the last 16 or quarter finals at a push, or even a good run in the Europa League is what we want. In fact it’s what we should be demanding.

Is Brendan up for the challenge? Yes, I think he is. We are getting a much better man second time around, he has gained more valuable experience in the Premier League and Europe with Leicester and has all the knowledge from his first two and a half years at Celtic to fall back on. He actually stayed around longer than Ange you should note.. I expect us to reap the rewards of his extra knowledge. Good times are ahead for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.
