Brighton boss gives update on Celtic target Glenn Murray

Celtic are looking for a new striker in January to provide some cover for Odsonne Edouard after seeing both Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo fail to make an impact this season. And one name who has been linked with the club recently is Brighton & Hove Albion veteran Glenn Murray. The striker has failed to either score or assist this season and could be looking for a way out after falling behind Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly in the pecking order.

After the striker missed the club’s FA Cup 3rd round clash against Sheffield Wednesday last Sunday, there were rumours that he was on his way to Parkhead. Those rumours have been squashed by Brighton boss, Graham Potter, who claimed that Murray had picked up an injury in training leading up to the game which caused his absence. The report also went on to reveal that the Hoops have not made any approach for Murray yet.

Speaking with The Argus, the manager said:

“It was unfortunate for him and unfortunate for us.

“I think it would have been good for us to use him and it would have been good for him. But these things happen.

“There were a few bumps and bruises after the period we have had.”

Murray has proven himself to be a capable striker in the Premier League over the past two seasons, crossing the 10-goal mark in both seasons and might represent a shrewd piece of business if the Hoops do manage to reach a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion. At 36 years of age, he is only a short-time solution to Celtic’s problems but a risk worth taking considering the fact that nine-in-a-row is hanging in the balance.
