Brilliant Celtic statement shuts Old Firm narrative down

Celtic have released a brilliant statement to shutdown the Old Firm narrative peddled by the Scottish Government and Rangers today. After the shameful scenes at the weekend as the Ibrox club stood idly by as thousands flouted lockdown rules and socialised in the streets, prompting calls from many to suspend football.

Douglas Park made reference to the protests at Celtic Park, which involved a few hundred fans outside the stadium. Park claimed that the behaviour of the Celtic fans in December lead to the police being unwilling to effectively police the situation at the weekend.

However, Celtic have responded saying that they are not part of the problem here. The issue is with the Ibrox club’s fans and their unruliness, with the lack of condemnation from the football club. Celtic also brilliantly included OneClubSince1888 at the end of their tweet, jabbing at Rangers’ administration and subsequent new club forming in 2012.

It is about time the club spoke out as Rangers have become increasingly vocal on certain issues, using Celtic as a straw man to attack to appease their support. The club should use this shocking episode to go out and get a marquee manager and put them back in their place next season.
