Brilliant – Chris Sutton makes Celtic and Manchester City claim

CHRIS SUTTON is always a vocal advocate of Scottish football, with massive loyalty to his former employer Celtic. The big striker didn’t miss the target much as a player and has continued this trend as a pundit with straight talking observations, which have endeared him to many and alienated him from some.

One comment, in particular, has ruffled the feathers of some English fans after the former Blackburn and Chelsea striker dismissed claims that Manchester City were bigger than Celtic. Speaking on BBC 5-Live 606 with Robbie Savage, Sutton dismissed the claim from a supporter that Guardiola’s free spending City were bigger than the 9IAR Champions and European Cup winners from 1967.

The caller claimed that Celtic were bigger historically but City were now bigger than their Scottish counterparts.

“Come on, who’s got the star on their jersey? Celtic are much bigger, of course they are.

“We’ve had this argument about Celtic and Leicester and it’s true.

“They’re a bigger club. Man City might have the money, Celtic have the history, Celtic have the European Cup.”

City have been one of the biggest forces in English football in the last ten years owing to the investment from the Middle East that has transformed the club from mid table to European heavyweights. Although, as Sutton points out, there is a reason that Celtic have a star on their jersey and City don’t.

Brendan Rodgers’ side played Guardiola’s City in the 2016/17 season, drawing 3-3 at Paradise before a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.
