He may have been at Celtic for eight years now, but you do wonder whether Nir Bitton will play for Celtic again – especially if Ange Postecoglou signs a new centre-back.
Bitton, who is a natural defensive midfielder, has been filling in for Celtic at the back given the absence of Christopher Jullien, and the lack of signings made in the defensive department.
However, after some extremely poor performances – especially in Europe, in which his displays went a long way to Celtic’s elimination – it appears that Ange has finally had the final straw with the Israeli after he included Stephen Welsh in the starting XI.
Fans were over the moon with the call – Welsh is the better defender, and it shows by the reactions of the majority of the Celtic support.

Hopefully Bitton being dropped today is confirmation that Ange is on the lookout for another centre half. He clearly doesn’t fancy Welsh as 1st choice, as steady as he’s been, and wants somebody with more of a range of passing, so he’ll need to bring somebody in to fill that gap.

He can still play a part in Celtic’s bid to reclaim the title – but please, please don”t make him play centre half, Ange.
