Broony on Bolingoli – “It’s hard because he’s made a mistake. But that mistake has cost us two games”

CELTIC captain Scott Brown, speaking to Celtic TV, has given a measured response to the dressing room feelings towards the still in quarantine Boli Bolingoli. The full interview with the skipper will appear as part of the club’s broadcast of tonight’s Champions League first round tie again KR Reykjavik.

Initially put up on Twitter by the Scottish Champions, Brown’s interview was a tad scathing about the Belgian’s midweek jaunt to Spain – rightfully so. The club decided to delete the Tweet ahead of the broadcast this evening; however, the Scottish Sun managed to snare the quotes from the interview.

“For us it was one man’s mistake and we got punished as well. But that’s football, we need to make sure everyone learns from that mistake.

“It’s hard because he’s made a mistake. But that mistake has cost us two games. For us we play a lot of games over the season and now we’ve got to cram these two games in somewhere that, I don’t know where we’re going to cram them in.

“But for us, he’s made that mistake and we need to just worry about ourselves from now on and make sure everyone is doing everything by the book.”

Celtic’s games against St Mirren and Aberdeen were postponed as a result of the full-back’s disappearing act and the club now face a backlog of fixtures. Brown did admit that whilst the club were feeling a low in the aftermath of Nicola Sturgeon’s public dressing down, manager Neil Lennon had managed to keep spirits high around the group.

“The gaffer did that really well but for us it’s all about our mentality and going back to that winning mentality, playing well and putting a smile on a lot of people’s faces.”

Celtic are six points behind Rangers but with two games in hand. Although with a tough trip to Tannadice on Sunday, Celtic need to be at the very top of their game. Hopefully if Neil Lennon’s side start well tomorrow and get a few goals, players like Rogic and Ajeti can get some game time ahead of what will be a brutal schedule.
