Cake, Prague 67 Ghirl’s then Ange’s first Sky Sports interview of new season

Ange Postecoglou has given his first interview of the season to Sky Sports who have travelled over to Austria to Celtic’s summer training camp to check in on how Celtic’s pre-season is going so far while quizzing the Celtic manager about the various transfer stories that have been doing the roads over the past month or so.

Ange also talks about Harry Kewell’s arrival at the club and what he expects from the former Socceroos legend and looks ahead to next season as he plans on constant improvement asking all his players to be better next season than last year where the title and the League Cup were won. Great listen as always but Ange gives very little away as you’d expect…

Meanwhile as the dust settled on our first friendly match of the summer as preparations for the cinch Premiership league starting back up at the end of the month, Ange revealed that our Austrian hosts dished up a treat for him and his charges in the beautiful city of Vienna when they arrived at the complex.

The people of Wiener Viktoria had made a cake especially for Celtic as they would be hosting us during our stay in Austria whilst we begun our gruelling training schedule ahead of the League Flag being unfurled on 31 July. After the game, the boss was asked about the reception the Hoops had been given since they arrived on the doorstep of the Austrian’s and he was delighted with the welcome.

However, he did quip that he hasn’t gotten a chance to chow down on some of the lovely baking that had been made in light of his and the club’s attendance in Wiener. As reported by Daily Record, he said: “I’m starving, I haven’t had a chance to eat it (the cake) yet. They have all been very kind. You come to these places and you understand it is a thrill for them and they want to host you well, so it has been good”.

Celtic made it look easy if truth be told on the night, but again the opposition where minnows in comparison to ourselves. It was a lovely gesture though by the home side who will have been no doubt excited at the prospect of a Champions League team residing in their facilities and complex. The chasm between the sides was stark however, as most of our regular starters viewed from the sidelines.

We move onto old European foes Rapid Vienna next, whom Niall J had written about yesterday on The Celtic Star. It promises to be a much tougher test than the lads from Viktoria, but there is no denying Ange will be looking for the same kind of levels of performance no matter who is included in the side on the day come Saturday.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
