Celtic B made an emphatic start to their KDM Evolution Trophy campaign with a 3-1 win over Clyde last night, and all eyes were on Callum Osmand, the summer signing from Fulham, who seems to have perhaps evidenced why he’s been so highly rated.

After being relatively unseen bar a few minutes in early pre-season appearances with the first team squad, Osmand announced himself in style. Just 10 minutes in, he was brought down when clean through on goal, earning a red card for Clyde’s Tommy Robson.

And Osmand didn’t take long to make the most of the advantage. Two minutes later, he was in behind the Bully Wee defence and clinically finished to give the Celtic the lead.

Celtic B’s dominance continued with Sean McArdle curling a low drive into the bottom corner before Samuel Isiguzo reportedly added a half-volley finish just before halftime, putting the game beyond doubt.
Both those players were also seen with the first team over the course of pre-season so it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for both those players, alongside Osmand.

Clyde fought back in the second half with Robbie Leitch pulling one back, but Celtic B’s early firepower and resolute defending – led by goalkeeper Aidan Rice – kept the victory secure.

Osmand’s performance was perhaps less of a statement, and instead more of a possible shop window sales pitch.
Prior to signing with Celtic we’d heard all about his intelligent movement, clinical finishing, and a knack for turning defenders inside out, and it seems last night he arguably stole the show.
Fans, and those tasked with developing the player, will be asking whether this display signals a future beyond the B-team setup, perhaps even prompting interest from a Scottish Premiership club keen on a loan move to further develop the young striker.

Celtic B will be delighted to get their campaign off to such a confident start, but it was Osmand’s impressive performance that ensured all the headlines. If last night is anything to go by, the summer signing must be poised to make waves far beyond the Celtic B team.
If he’s not likely to get first team football, it really is imperative Shaun Maloney – in his new Pathways role at the club – finds the right club at the right level, with a striker position vacant, that would ensure Callum Osmand develops at first team level for the rest of the season.
It’s unlikely playing games in front of 252 spectators at New Douglas Park is going to cut it, but it will have been an important run-out for new signing Osmand nonetheless.
