Carl Starfelt started at the heart of Celtic’s defence in the Glasgow Derby win on Wednesday night. The Swedish defender has come under fire at times but along with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Joe Hart, Josip Juranovic and Greg Taylor he has helped Celtic maintain the best defensive record in the league.
Goals from Reo Hatate and Liel Abada sealed the win, which took Celtic top on an incredible night under the lights. As brilliant as Ange Postecoglou’s team were when they went forward in the first half, they were robust throughout thanks to Starfelt & co. The ex-Rubin Kazan defender kept Roofe quiet whilst blocking advances from other Rangers players on occasion and his uncle was there to watch the whole thing. Speaking to BBC’s The Nine, Starfelt’s uncle gave a glowing appraisal of the match, the fans as well as his nephew.

BBC’s Hope Webb was just looking to get some reaction from football fans in Glasgow but it was a Swedish tourist that was across to watch his nephew that she stumbled across. The energy and enthusiasm in which he speaks about the game is incredible, describing his walk into Glasgow’s East End and meeting people along the way. Last night’s atmosphere was something special and will be remembered for a while yet.
Starfelt’s uncle then went for his bag, where he pulled out Hart’s match-worn shirt that had been gifted by the former England Internationalist as he kept a clean sheet in the Glasgow Derby win. The shirt featured a personalised message to Starfelt’s cousin, also called Carl, who is a goalkeeper that idolises Hart.
It is a relatively short clip but it is a great advert for Celtic, the support and the team.
