Castagne’s a £10m no go but Ralston deserves his chance

CELTIC’S chances of signing Belgian right back Timothy Castagne from Atalanta this morning seem increasingly remote after the Italian side slapped a whopping £10million transfer fee on his head.

That is believed to be double the price that Celtic were prepared to pay while Castagne himself revealed his own preference would be a move to England or Germany.

Mikael Lustig’s current contract expires in the summer and so far Celtic have not taken advantage of the one year extension option that the club enjoys. Anthony Ralston though could provide a home grown solution as the Academy player has performed very well in the recent home wins at Celtic Park.

The young defender replaced Lustig at half time at Ibrox and stood up to the challenge – and the kicks – very well indeed. That will not have gone unnoticed by his manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Lustig himself has been attracting interest back home in Sweden. His preference is to stay at Celtic but if he is not offered a new deal, he will head home with AIK his likely destination.

Dedryck Boyata is also set to leave Celtic after his agent revealed that he is not even talking to Celtic about a new deal – see HERE.
