Why it should be Celtic 11 Rangers 0

Prior to the last encounter against Rangers at Ibrox the internet was awash with posts about which Celtic players would get into the Rangers side.

Like the cheer that went up from the Rangers dressing room, I’m sure whoever started such posts will be living to regret it and will be stuffing their faces with large slices of humble pie.

From Foderingham to Morelos there’s not a single player from their team would get a sniff at Celtic Park.

Whilst some on the lunatic fringe have touted Foderingham for England, Gordon’s two exquisite saves show how much better he is than his counterpart from Ibrox. He had very little to do, but to pull off the saves like those in quick succession was frankly fantastic.

Tavernier has been one of Rangers best players this season and is good at attacking but he’s been part of a defence that has lost 25 goals to Celtic over the last two campaigns. McCrorie was picked over the experienced Alves yesterday and it proved costly. Perhaps McCrorie will get better but if you look across the City at Ajer’s progress then McCrorie gets pushed aside in favour of the big Norwegian.

Celtic’s only defensive concern to me is Boyata but barring a near disaster yesterday he played relatively well but would Russell Martin edge him out or Simonuvic for that matter?

Declan John certainly wouldn’t get near Tierney’ spot. Not only did Celtic’s mercurial left back cause Rangers grief going forward, he also defended his patch very well and has done over the piece.

Not one Rangers midfielder would get into the Celtic side. Celtic’s dominance over the piece has been through strength in these positions. Andy Halliday would struggle to get into the U20 side going on his performance yesterday. Rogic, Forrest, Brown, Ntcham and McGregor absolutely bossed the game with 3 of them finding the net.

It was discussed before yesterday’s mis-match that Docherty could stop Brown in his tracks. Wasn’t and isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Brown is a colossus.

And anyone who thinks Alfredo Morelos is anywhere near Dembele’s level is plainly barking mad. Dembele has scored more goals against Rangers in the last 2 Seasons than Rangers has scored against Celtic a stat that tells its own story. Morelos yet again squandered a gilt-edge chance. Leight Griffiths is also a better all-round striker than Morelos. He may have more goals but both have endure long term injuries this season.

I’d like to see the posters re-jig their teams to see which Celtic players would get into their combined team now. It’s going to end up as Celtic 11 Rangers 0.
