Celtic and Liverpool legend predicts Parkhead side will make marquee appointment

Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has said that the club will make a marquee managerial appointment, bringing in a new boss of the ‘highest calibre’. King Kenny said in his Sunday Post column that he believes the Quadruple Treble winners of last season to respond strongly to Rangers winning the league title and stopping the Parkhead side from winning 10IAR but he doesn’t see a frontrunner being mentioned yet.

There have been a number of names mentioned, with Rafa Benitez, Steve Clarke and Roberto Martinez a sample of a few of the names mentioned. Yet, there appears to be no name universally revered for the role with maybe Eddie Howe a widespread favourite.

“Around a dozen names have been linked with the manager’s job. At the moment, there doesn’t appear to be a clear front-runner in the eyes of the supporters and the media.

“Dermot Desmond is very much keeping his cards close to his chest and that’s the way it should be.

“I’m not privy as to who will be Neil’s replacement. But I do know that it will be a person of the highest calibre available.

“However, the new gaffer, and director of football, will not have a magic wand.”

Dalglish believes that the supporters need to be patient with the manager, whoever it is, as they look to reinvest the club after a period of unprecedented success. The era ended earlier today but a new regime will rise from the ashes of this season with a new manager, DOF and Dom McKay all coming in to rebuild the club.

“There will need to be patience and understanding shown by the Celtic supporters for the new people in the boardroom, technical area and out on the pitch.

“Success may well not happen immediately. People may well need to be prepared for that.

“But there is a better chance of winning games and silverware if everyone is pulling in the same direction.”
