Celtic are still in discussions with Ryan Christie over a potential new deal. The club could face losing the player on a free transfer if they cannot get a new contract agreed to extend the midfielder’s stay at Paradise.
According to The Scottish Daily Mail (via 67HailHail), Christie’s representatives are still negotiating a potential extension with the view to remaining with Ange Postecoglou’s side. The club are likely awaiting to see whether Christie wants to remain at the club moving forward or he is looking to work his ticket ahead of a move.
Christie clearly has the quality to play in a number of positions and his energy in the middle of the park has been impressive since Postecoglou arrived. Christie previously rejected an extension last year while Neil Lennon was in charge but that could potentially be about the manager and the style of football that was being played last year.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs but nothing has materialised, which has coincided with Postecoglou’s scintillating brand of football. Christie was on a wage that did not reflect his role at the club and you can only assume that he wants to be one of the top earners at the club if he were to stay around. Celtic will want to tie him down as a player of his quality would likely be at the top end of what Celtic could afford.
Just as long as he NEVER plays against the tribute act.
