Celtic arrange pre-season friendly away to Swedish Champions

Celtic FC Women will face off against Hammarby at Tyresövallen on the 7th of August as the Ghirls head out to Sweden for their pre-season summer training camp.

Hammarby play in the Damallsvenskan and are currently sitting third in the table having played 13 games. They were crowned the Swedish Champions last season for the second time in their history and have a solid support. They were also the last team that Celtic manager Elena Sadiku played for before retiring due to recurring injuries.

It will certainly be a great occasion as the two reigning champions of Scotland and Sweden go head to head.

Yesterday, Celtic Women returned to training following the off-season. These pictures showed our new signings in action for the first time, with Elena looking over the moon to be back to work.

I’d expect more friendlies to be announced soon. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can watch our new players take to the pitch in the Hoops and hopefully there will be a good few more signings coming in too, especially after the squad was cut by another four names at the end of June with Lisa Robertson, Imane Addi, Sydney Cummings and Tiree Burchill all leaving the SWPL1 Champions. Lisa Robertson, incidentally immediately signed a two-year contract with Hearts.

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to put the first game of the SWPL season in your calendar. We face Dundee United at the Excelsior Stadium on 11 August as we kick off our defence of the league title.

And remember, there’s still time to purchase a season ticket for the upcoming season so you can back the Ghirls in green!

  1. Sad to see Tiree Burchill leave. And this comes after losing our 2 Chinese players who have been magnificent for us. Plus Tash Flint off to America. Elena has some work to do. Good luck, COYGIG.
