Celtic attacker linked with permanent switch to English Championship

CELTIC youngster Jack Aitchison has been linked with a permanent switch to English Championship side Barnsley. The 20-year-old is the youngster ever competitive scorer for the Parkhead side but could be set for pastures new.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that Barnsley are close to agreeing a deal for the youngster, who spent the second half of last season with Forest Green. Nixon also says that Aitchison was ‘Ex Celtic’; however there has been no official confirmation to say that he has left the club.

According to Transfermarkt, Aitchison is supposed to have another year left on his deal at Celtic; however, given that he has failed to really make an impact since 2016, it is likely that he will want to move on so that his career doesn’t stall.

Barnsley may offer Aitchison an ample size to really get some game time and get back amongst the goals. Despite that famous day against Motherwell in 2016, Aitchison has never really kicked on to being the next big thing and a number of factors could have contributed to that.

Hopefully if Celtic have any authority in the deal they will add a sell-on clause and potentially a buy-back so that they get a degree of return for their investment into the young attacker.

Either way, if a move transpires then we wish him well.
