Has the Celtic Board forgotten the real priority?

Anyone who watches the Bhoys on a regular basis will have known where our Achilles Heel has been over the last few Seasons. It’s in the defence. If you keep the back door shut it gives you the base to build on. If you rarely rarely lose goals you don’t lose many games and everyone knows that.

I understand the quality of player that Brendan wants to bring to Celtic, this is simply down to his knowledge and experience of working with top players throughout his career while in England but do our Board fully appreciate that?

Cast your mind over previous Seasons and think of the last time we had a quality defence, especially at centre half, for me it was when Virgil Van Dijk and Jason Deneyar were playing together, the cost, Virgil £2.5m and Jason was a loan.

It can be difficult to attract a quality player in that position to come to Scotland, it’s nothing to do with Celtic it’s just the League we play in but here is the question, what money are the Board really prepared to allocate to the continued improvement of the squad especially when you know getting a top player costs serious money?

I like many Celtic supporters would like to know if the money we generated from the transfers of Stuart Armstrong and Erik Sviatchenko, the sell of fee for Van Dijk when he left Southampton for Liverpool and Boyata’s appearance money (lis Rogic’s, Lustig’s and Gamboa’s) at the World Cup were given directly to Brendan to use and strengthen the squad. If not why not?

Although Peter Lawell and the Board have a business plan they work to, it must be flexible enough to be adjusted when a mistake has been made as lessons need to be learned. The McGinn transfer issue was an example that I hope will be acted on, we must always remember a successful team is the keystone to all the other things we want to achieve.
