Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers mindful of risk posed by Lawrence Shankland

Brendan Rodgers has praised Lawrence Shankland ahead of Sunday’s Cinch Premiership game between Celtic and Hearts at Tynecastle. Shankland equalised for Hearts in the Edinburgh Derby meaning he has now contributed to over 50% of the goals scored by Steven Naismith’s team this season.

Speaking at the media conference on Friday, Rodgers praised the Hearts striker whilst saying that his team need to manage the Scotland Internationalist to ensure he isn’t given chances.

“Yeah, I really enjoy watching him because when I was here the first time he was someone on the radar. You could hear people speaking about him and anytime I have seen him in clips, you could see he was a goalscorer.

“Having come back and seen him in Premiership playing, he is a boy that looks super concentrated in the game.

“He has really good technique, uses his body well to protect the ball. He scores all types of goals, left foot, right foot, good in the air. So he is a very good player and one we have to manage well.”

Rodgers’ side found top form during the week as they blew Dundee away, winning 7-1. Hopefully, the Scottish Champions can continue this form into the ten remaining games and bring about the third successive title.

Shankland scored Hearts’ opener in the December win at Celtic Park, that afternoon will hopefully still be sore for the team and they can look to take revenge on the Jambos by replicating the win in October at Tynecastle.
