‘Celtic CAN win the Europa League,’ The Celtic Star’s Lisbon Lion

YESTERDAY we were all scratching our heads trying to figure out what Brendan Rodgers was going on about regarding his view that there were Celtic people out there expecting the club to reach the Europa League Final at the end of May.

Well credit to journalism David Friel who has found one such Celtic man who reckons it’s possible and it’s none other that The Celtic Star’s very own Jim Craig!

Here’s some of what Jim has to say in his long interview this morning.

“Of course I’d love another Celtic team to win a European trophy. I am a Celtic fan. It’s quite frustrating that it hasn’t happened and the Uefa Cup final in Seville was heartbreaking. To lose so narrowly was really tough.

“I’d love to see another Celtic team rise to win a European trophy and share the adulation. It’s NOT a pipe dream.

“Realistically, Celtic won’t ever win the Champions League again. Teams have too much money to buy whoever they want. I disapprove of that completely. There should be some sort of cap to make it a more level playing field.

“But Celtic do have a good chance in the Europa League. I don’t think they will be facing any star teams in the group stage. There is certainly no PSG or Manchester City.

“I think we’ve got a fighting chance against all of them. It’s about what Celtic do. Rosenborg is an excellent game to start with, especially at home. You can get some points on the board and take it from there.”

Lisbon Lions Jim Craig and Willie Wallace will appear at a ‘Legends of Scottish and world football’ event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 15 October. Tickets cost £20 and are available from www.ticketsglasgow.com or on 0141 353 8000.
